Which type of prefab structure is right for you?
There are two main considerations in choosing a prefab structure: what will you use it for and how long do you need it?
The application – what you'll use the building for – is the first consideration. If the answer is just for storage, you're in luck: storage containers are by far the most affordable way to quickly add temporary space to your office. These basic metal boxes are not useable for other types of applications, though: you can't set up an office or a store in one. (At least, not a store that anyone would want to visit.)
If you need a work space – offices, retail, shop space, or even a classroom or medical office, modular buildings are the most customizable. You can get the exact appearance and extras you need – but at a total cost much less than having a contractor build a traditional building. However because of their cost, modular buildings are usually only a good investment if you intend to use them for at least a couple of years.
Office trailers provide a sort of middle ground. They can be used for either office space, or for storage. They're typically not very customizable – unlike modular buildings, which can be hard to identify as modular once they're fully installed, office trailers generally look pretty much like office trailers. But they do have the advantage of being easy to set up and transport, so for short term use, they're ideal.
Not quite prefab: steel is the answer for larger buildings
One final consideration: if you're looking for something more like a warehouse or large garage, steel buildings are your best bet. Because the steel panels and components are all manufactured in advance, they're much cheaper and faster to build than regular construction. And unlike modular buildings, they are ideal for enclosing large open spaces.
However, they're not true prefabricated buildings because the actual construction is done on site, instead of in a factory environment – and that means they're outside of our expertise.
